On November 30, 2009, Parliament of Canada unanimously passed a resolution to commemorate the victims of Europe's totalitarian regimes introduced by Liberal Foreign Affairs Critic, the Hon. Bob Rae.
This day coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the infamous pact between the Nazi and Soviet Communist regimes.

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP BATURYN:
From Montreal: Take Autoroute 10 east to exit 106 Highway 245, direction Mansonville About 2.5 kilometers after the town of Bolton Center, Baturyn is on your right. (Note that if you come to a stop sign at a "T" intersection, you have missed the Baturyn drive way by about 200 meters.)

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP STE SOPHIE:
From Montreal to Chertsey: 25 North to 125 North till Chertsey.
FROM CHERTSEY: Turn right on de l'Église (from the 125 N.). go on for approximately 7.6 km. Turn left after crossing a bridge (Pont du Gouvernement). Drive for approximately 5.5 km. N.B. The road becomes a dirt road, just past a small wooden bridge. The road is then called Avenue des Castors and the camp is 0.8 km further, on the right side. Turn right on Rue Ste-Sophie. Vitayemo!

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP WERCHOWYNA:
From Montreal to Chertsey: 25 North to 125 North till Chertsey.
FROM CHERTSEY: Turn right on de l'Église (from the 125 N.). go on for approximately 1.3 km. You will see the Hutsul-style wooden gate to Werchowyna on the left-hand side. Turn left onto the dirt road and follow it until the main building. Vitayemo!

The 120th Anniversary of Ukrainian Settlement in Canada 1891-2011
On April 12, 2010, Ihor Ostash, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, and the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada met with members of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group. More than 30 Members of Parliament and Senators took part in the meeting. The Ambassador made a proposal to celebrate 120 years since the first Ukrainians settled in Canada, jointly next year at an official state level. In this regard, Ihor Ostash noted the contribution that Ukrainians made to the development of Canada. In the view of this gala celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Ukrainian Settlement in Canada, the Ambassador introduced a cultural project, that of a Ukrainian immigrant train symbolically crossing the country from Halifax to Edmonton, travelling the route the first Ukrainians took upon arriving in Canada. Ihor Ostash proposed that outstanding Canadians - politicians, artists, performers etc. of Ukrainian heritage - as well as their counterparts from Ukraine, be invited to become passengers on the Ukraine-Canada Train that will stop where large Ukrainian communities live. The Canadian MPs and Senators in the parliamentary friendship group gladly supported this idea.
